making a difference
There is an enormous sense of frustration with our politicians, with their petty squabbles, short-sighed views, and policies, which are pedestrian, compromised artifacts.
This is an invitation for teens ages 14 and 15 to come together as a task team and create a new political platform, articulating in detail 21st-century solutions in the realm of energy generation, transportation, health care, immigration, criminal justice, and more.
You are young people, who can see with fresh eyes and keen sense what jaded eyes and older adults immersed in the existing narratives may fail to see and work out—or are just too busy, cynical, and tired to.
The invitation is to go the distance—much farther than any school assignment requires. But then, the endgame here is not a grade or trophy; it is the creation of something that will inspire and be taken up with the community at large. It is the real deal.
The goal is to introduce something to the world that is not only bold and visionary but also well-articulated and thought out: a clean path not marred by lobbyists and partisan politics, a clean path whose vision and plan extend beyond a quarterly report or an election cycle. And perhaps the world will not be the same because of you. If nothing else, you won’t be the same; you will grow as a person and as a thinker.
It is said that nothing grows in a shade of a great tree. And I, the mentor, am committed not to cast any shadows. It will be your journey to make. My opinions will not be a part of this equation.
