In small teams, participants will develop a few ideologically-contrasting colonies (e.g. ecologically minded and survivalist driven) on an otherwise uninhabited, earth-like planet. Using the real world as a reference, the young people will design their cultures' values, politics, economies, and religions. Among other things, the participants will wrestle through the questions of how laws will come into being, what the justice code will be like, and what are the basic principles of the economy and of resource allocation. Finally, they will interact, negotiate, or fend off other colonies.
time commitment: 3 sessions, each 2 hours long. number of participants: 4–12 recommended grades: 8–12
